I meant to post this a few days ago, but here is a true story to show that they are not all locked up yet in padded cells.

For those outside of the UK, '999' is the emergency number to ring in the UK for cases of fire, emergency ambulance service or the police.

What was even more worrying was the follow-up comment on the same thread by one of my astro-buddies, Les:

Its amazing what some half wits phone the police about.One woman phoned 999 to tell the astounded operater that her pot plants were dying after returning from holiday.Ive even heard of someone who phone up in the middle of the night to ask the time.As for astronomical ignorance there was a survey done recently of 1,400 schoolchilderen and it found that a third thought that Winston Churchill was the first man on the Moon,75% couldnt identify the Moon and almost half thought that Mars was a chocolate bar and the planet dident exist.

And to think that at present all teachers in Queensland, Australia, are going out on strike next week for higher salaries, and they can't even deliver the product pertaining to thier contracts. Teachers here have more holidays than any in the world.

While New Zealand may be named as the land of the long white cloud, Australia is known as the land of the long week end.
